After an unannounced inspection by the Environmental Health team, Vera James House residential care home in Ely has been awarded 5*. This fantastic result means that all three of CHS’s residential care homes, our 3 extra care schemes and both of our Sunflower nurseries have been rated as having 5* kitchens.
The ‘Scores on the doors’ scheme enables consumers to choose where to eat ‘but people living in residential care homes or who rely on our community meals service don’t have a choice about where to eat, so it’s vital that we provide them with the best’ said Beryl Gillespie, Head of Older People’s Services at CHS. ‘It’s fabulous that Vera James House has 5* status’. One resident said ‘I actually really look forward to my meals, they are really very nice.’ Another resident added ‘There is plenty of choice available, I like that I see the options so that I can pick what I like at each mealtime.’
On the same day, Vera James House also received a rating of ‘Very good’ for its health and safety practices and Beryl was delighted by this news: ‘this is testament to the hard work of our dedicated team of staff’ .
