Making a Stand against domestic abuse

CHS has made a commitment to support people experiencing domestic abuse by signing up to Make a Stand.
The Make a Stand pledge has been developed by the Chartered Institute of Housing in partnership with Women’s Aid and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA), encouraging housing associations to make four focussed commitments:

To put in place and embed a policy to support residents affected by domestic abuse

To make information about support services easily available for residents and staff

To put in place an HR policy to support members of staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse

To appoint a champion at a senior level to own the activity in supporting people experiencing domestic abuse.
Housing associations are uniquely placed to identify, recognise & respond to domestic abuse. CHS is also working towards accreditation by DAHA to ensure we are in the best position to support people experiencing domestic abuse by amending and embedding our policies, raising awareness, staff training and joining local and national partnerships.
Helen Tonks, Head of Housing at CHS said ‘Housing associations collectively house millions of people across the UK, which means that even using cautious estimates, we house many thousands of people experiencing domestic abuse and CHS recognises the crucial need to support and protect them’.
