This has changed our lives…
The Jones family have a disabled daughter, Sarah. The family were experiencing difficulties regarding Sarah’s sleeping and general hygiene requirements; they were struggling to get her upstairs to wash and sleep as she became older and heavier. This was becoming a health and safety issue not only for Sarah but for her parents as their health was being put at risk due to the physical strain of carrying her.
The family received an occupational health assessment and it was agreed that a ground floor extension should be provided. CHS work closely with local authorities and occupational health professionals to assist in the delivery of major adaptations by way of financial contribution, technical advice and tenancy knowledge.
After joint agency meetings it was agreed that the proposed adaptation would be a ground floor extension that would give Sarah a downstairs bedroom and an adapted bathroom for her needs. Work also included excavation to the front garden area to create a hard standing parking space for the family. This has worked well as the family car can be parked nearer to the property making life easier for them all.
The extension was delivered within time and cost and is working well for the family. Mrs Jones said: “I cannot express my thanks enough to everyone involved in helping us. We were worried that we would have to move from our lovely house. That would have been very difficult as Sarah has settled in well at the local school and has made friends nearby. To be able to stay here and have the work done has changed our lives. Sarah is so happy with her new bedroom. She even chose the paint colour for her walls – pink of course!”
